Summer is your busiest season — and the worst time for a breakdown. Whether you're running a solo operation or managing a fleet, staying ahead of maintenance keeps your equipment profitable and your customers happy. Here's your complete summer pressure washer maintenance checklist.

Pump Maintenance

Your pump is the heart of your rig. Summer heat accelerates wear on seals and oil, so check these items monthly:

Inspect seals and O-rings for cracking or weeping. Summer heat dries out rubber faster — replace proactively rather than reactively.
Check inlet water temperature — most pumps are rated for a maximum inlet temp. Hot summer water from a tank sitting in the sun can push you over the limit and damage valves.
Flush the pump if the rig has been sitting. Run clean water through for 2–3 minutes before applying any chemical.

Hose Care

High-cycle summer use puts serious stress on hoses and connections:

Inspect hoses weekly for abrasion, kinking, or bulging — especially near fittings.
Store hoses coiled loosely in shade when not in use. UV and heat degrade the outer jacket over time.
Check your whip lines and connector hoses — these take the most flex stress and are often the first to fail.
Flush hoses after chemical use to prevent residue buildup that can corrode fittings.

Chemical Storage

Summer heat can degrade your chemical inventory fast:

Store all soaps and degreasers in a cool, shaded area — ideally below 90°F. Heat can break down surfactants and reduce effectiveness.
Keep containers sealed tightly to prevent evaporation and contamination.
Rotate stock — use older product first and don't let chemicals sit through the full season unused.
Label dilution ratios on every container. In the heat of a busy day, mistakes happen.
